John Naismith and  Willie Evans  have just returned from a very successful trip to Nashville, where they pitched Evangeline's original material to some of Music City's top publishers, with positive results! They also performed four songs at Nashville's famous Bluebird Cafe, the venue where Garth Brooks, Kathy Mattea and countless others were discovered! John and Willie collaborated with other writers from across America and Canada, under the tutorship and guidance of some of the most successful songwriters in the business, including:

Sara Light  John Michael Montgomery's "Home To You"
Pete & Pat Luboff Patti LaBelle, Bobby Womack
Rick Carnes Garth Brooks' "Longneck Bottle" (among 21 million copies sold!)
Lisa Palas Alabama, John Berry, Randy Travis, Reba McEntire, Conway Twitty

John says, "I was very excited to meet songwriters of this calibre and ecstatic about collaboratng with some very talented people. Willie and I have made some fantastic new friends and colleagues and we are already engaged in writing tons of new material. The trip was an amazing experience which will be impossible to repeat - but that won't stop us trying! You only need to look at the Dreambook on Willie's website to see that we made quite an impression - I'm quite sure we flew the flag with disctinction!"

"I want to convey heartfelt thanks to Willie Evans for putting this trip together. I told him I wanted to improve my craft and I thought I could do that by meeting other songwriters - I had no idea that, with a few phone calls and emails, he would set up something like this! It seems Willie's dream is as big as mine and that can only augur well for EVANGELINE."

"I'm quite sure that Nashville hasn't seen the last of us!"

Following on from the success of Willie and John's Nashville trip, Willie Evans headed to Los Angeles in November to further spread the word about EVANGELINE!

During this visit, Willie met with some of the top executives in the music iindustry to promote the band's songs and build on the networking which began in Nashville.

As if that wasn't enough, Willie promoted his self-penned tribute to Harlan Howard - "03/03/02" (recently played on BBC Radio Scotland) and  representing fantastic new singer-songwriter, Samantha Blue (pictured below), from Kansas City, Missouri, in her quest to secure a recording and publishing deal. Samantha accompanied Willie on the trip to LA. Yes, it's a tough job but someone has to do it!

Willie heads Stateside again in January 2003, when he'll be spending three days with John Berry in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in addition to spending time in Nashville meeting with publishers and other industry people. The latest news from the USA is that Nashville's producers and A&R professionals are now - for the first time - looking beyond Music City for hit songs, so why not Scotland?

It's essential, however, to have a presence in the town as networking still plays a large part in which songs get pitched, so Willie will keep plugging away on Evangeline's behalf until success is achieved! As Willie says, "If you don't knock on their door, they'll never open it..... but if you keep banging it down, they're gonna have to listen someday!"
